Travel Grant to Sweden and Marine Evolution conference -- May 2018

6/7/2018

I received a travel grant from Gothenburg University to spend 3 weeks at The Sven Lovén Centre for Marine Sciences on the island of Tjärnö for research related to ecotypes in the North Atlantic marine snail Littorina saxatilis. I also co-convened and co-moderated a special session on the evolutionary biology of marine invasions at the Marine Evolution conference in Stromstad, Sweden from May 15-17, 2018. I even got the opportunity to be in the presence of royalty (the Swedish princess came to a special meeting at Tjarno on marine plastics). See images below from my trip and from the conference!

People will conjure up different images in their minds when they think of the word, 'Hotel', or 'Guest House'. To some, 'Hotel' will instantly mean five-star luxury; to others it will remind them of a bland room with thin walls and noises emanating from the couple next door. Some may see a Hotel as being what you stay in, say, in Spain whilst to others it will be a 'Guest House' in Leicester. Each expression might be totally apt and stereotypical, to others nothing could be further from the truth.
